As mental health and substance use programs continue to expand, so does the need for mental health professionals (MHP) to be proficient in group counseling. Although many MHP come to the field from a variety of educational backgrounds and experience, many have not received formal training in the special skills required to be an effective group facilitator. This course will provide participants with hands-on activities that illustrate how a little planning, creativity and a sense of humor serve to engage clients in the therapeutic process. Participants will also discover how to modify some techniques for various settings and populations in order to broaden their clinical repertoire.

6 Clinical CE’s are approved for NJ LCSW/LSW/LPC/LAC/LCADC/CADC/LMFT and PA LPC via approval # 162702-130 issued by NASW-NJ.  CE’s are also approved for NY LMSWs & LCSWs via approved provider #0443.  See FAQ’s.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify client/group needs to match members to a suitable group activity
  • Prepare members for group work and process same
  • Develop a group protocol to facilitate group design and planning
  • Discuss use of self and significance of tweaking activities in order to reach group members
